Introduction

It is used in organic synthesis as a catalyst, a complexing ligand, and a non-nucleophilic alkali. As the temperature rises, the catalytic activity improves remarkably.

Applications

1) In the application of epoxy resin:

Within room temperature to 40 degrees, DBU hardly has any curing reaction with the epoxy resin. While if the temperature up to100, it will make the epoxy resin to gel within in 15 minutes. It is curing accelerator of the epoxy resin, which is used in the package of integrated circuit and the electronic component. The combination of DBU and linear phenolic resin is light yellow solid. It changes the shortcomings of DBU that easily hydrolyzed under wet conditions. So these epoxy molding compounds used in the IC package, has good resistance to heat and pressure cooking performance.

2) In the application of polyurethane:

It is used as a catalyst in the polyurethane industry. It is a highly reactive gel catalyst with low odour. It is mainly used for strong gel catalysis, including formulation that contains alicyclic isocyanate or aliphatic isocyanate. Because their activity is not as good as aromatic isocyanate, it needs very strong catalyst.

3) Other applications:

As a good acid stripping agent in drug synthesis for organic base. It can replace organic base such as triethylamine, N, N - dimethyl aniline, pyridine and quinoline, widely used in organic synthesis and semi-synthetic antibiotic, can offers a satisfactory effect in dehydrohalogenation reaction. It is widely used in the production of semi-synthetic cephalospor antibiotic drugs, i.e. under the presence of DBU, ammonia and dichloroethane can produce piperazine in the reactions.
